In Bloom

How did your Dad pass on his love for flowers?

Our father is a born entrepreneur.  After returning from his service in the Vietnam War, he picked up a truck route from his uncle, who worked in the floral industry in Brooklyn. On his route, he found a lot that could be improved in the industry and decided to try his hand at owning his own flower shop.

When did you realize you wanted to follow in his footsteps?

Originally, none of the three sons were going to work in the floral business. Rob Jr graduated college in 2011 and was trying to figure out his career. Chris was working in the finance industry but looking to do something else with his career. By 2014, when the youngest, Jonny, graduated, we made the decision to run the shop together. We have been doing this collectively for almost 7 years now together.

Have you expanded or changed the way your Dad did business?

We'd like to think so! Once a Mom/Pop shop that dealt with more walk-in business and weddings, we are now considered a truly upscale, luxury boutique flower shop. We have transformed the business to be more of an e-commerce/corporate florist that is consistent across all channels and our offerings. Times change, and we do our best to be a few steps ahead of the industry.

What has been your most challenging assignment?

One of the most challenging assignments is staying competitive in New York City. The city offers the most competition compared to our floral friends we know across the nation. As with any small business, another big challenge you face is becoming comfortable with complacency. You never know what is right around the corner (the pandemic is a great example of this). No matter what life throws at us, we analyze, we adjust and we innovate. These are our core beliefs in how to run a successful business.

Everyone buys roses for Valentine’s Day. How can we get creative?

Roses have always been the number one seller with Valentine's Day, but we have actually seen a huge wave in blush/pink designs being sold during the holiday. Our talented team of designers come up with creative designs and mixes that include other beautiful seasonal flowers as well. So be bold, step out of your comfort zone!

We're happy to offer an exclusive discount code for your newsletter subscribers for Valentine's Day. They can receive 10% off their order with the code FRESCO10. It will be valid the entire month of February.
