Rosanna Scotto: We are big fans of your cooking. What was the inspiration for MISIPASTA?

MP: Thank you! The idea is to give guests the tools to cook like I cook in the restaurants, with the ingredients I use. We want our brand of hospitality to extend beyond the four walls of our restaurants and into people's homes. We want to expose people to the art of cooking and the art of hosting.  Most of what is found at MISIPASTA is either created by me, including our fresh pastas, specialties like green garlic butter, whipped ricotta, Calabrese hot honey, and garlic breadcrumbs. Other items are ingredients that are staples of my tool kit that I carefully select-- this includes chilies, olive oils, vinegars, anchovies, etc.

RS: Is it a restaurant or specialty shop?

MP: MISIPASTA is a retail boutique AND an aperitivo bar to both shop Italian specialties and enjoy cocktails and cicchetti. It is a new version of experiential retail where we want people to experience what we cook, eat and drink, and hopefully inspire you to recreate similar experiences in your home.  Many of the items on the menu are made with ingredients that you can take home and recreate dishes or hopefully spark your own creativity

RS:  Do you have a favorite offering?

MP: I never like to pick favorites -- everything on the menu is something I would want to eat and that I'm excited about.

RS:  Will you be offering cooking classes?

MP: We're not offering cooking classes at this time, but that idea - of gathering, experimenting, enjoying together - is exactly what our shelves are stocked for. You can recreate the magic of 'here', at home.

RS:  Any ideas for holiday gifts?

MP:   A gift of any of our pantry items, from Olive oil to our simple sauce to our calabrian chilies will help you get started on your italian cooking journey

RS: If you can't get to Brooklyn, do you have an online component?

MP: The magic of MISIPASTA extends far beyond Brooklyn. Nationwide, a selection of shelf-stable grocery and specialty items and MISIPASTA merch is available for overnight and second-day shipping.

The full selection of fresh pastas, grocery and specialty items and dolce offerings (including our famed gelato) is available for same-day delivery in New York City or for pick-up at the MISIPASTA store.

RS:  All your restaurants are located in Williamsburg.  Does that make it easier for you to keep an eye on the businesses?

MP: Yes, correct. All of the businesses are here, and I also live in Williamsburg, as does my Business partner, Sean. It has been an incredible experience to grow within the community and have our restaurants close to each other.  We are seeing so many familiar faces at MISIPASTA - it's been very cool to see people go to eat lunch at MISI and then stop by to shop for dinner the next evening !

RS:    Any special plans for the holidays?

MP:  I anticipate a very busy holiday season with the store and restaurants. , which I'm excited for and hopefully some meaningful time with friends and family as well
